“I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” (Jesus- John 14:6)
When Jesus told us: “I am the way, the truth, and the life” He established that He alone is the Source of everything we really need in this life – to live life to the fullest.
Yesterday, we saw that Jesus is the way. He provides direction and leads us to what is best for our daily lives. As our Good Shepherd, He is Personally committed to leading us each and every day – if we will seek, and submit to, His leadership.
Today… Jesus is the truth.
We all need to know that what we think is right. In a world of so many voices, all proclaiming so many viewpoints, one of the most essential things is to be assured that we have secured God’s viewpoint. This is what Jesus said He came to do: “For this reason I was born and have come into the world, to testify to the truth.” (John 18:37)
What is truth? Simply stated… Truth is God’s viewpoint – it is His way of seeing things. His way of thinking. Jesus came to teach us God’s truth – but He also came to embody that truth. He was, literally, God with us. What we see in Jesus is truth… How God sees things, how He thinks, how He acts, and what God says.
And Jesus’ commitment to us is to convey God’s way of thinking, acting and speaking… into us. He does this, just as He leads us in the way… by Personally imparting God’s truth into our lives. God redeemed us so that He can be Personally involved in our lives. This was His desire for us.
This was another reason why Jesus came. As the Apostle John taught us: “The Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true. And we are in Him who is true…” (1 John 5:20) Our personal connection with Jesus is what makes all the difference. We do not have a Teacher that lectures us from a distance – we have a Teacher Who walks with us, teaching us as we travel life’s journey together. As He leads us in the way – He is instructing us in God’s ways.
Everything is powerfully personal.
This requires commitment on our part. We are not called to simply learn God’s truth – we are called to live committed to the One Who is truth.
There is a wonderful benefit to those who devote themselves to the Master. He Personally promises: “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” (John 8:31-32) But the truth only liberates us as we commit our hearts to the One Who imparts truth. Jesus taught us that without our personal commitment to Him, the truth can only be knowledge in our minds – and not the liberating force it can be when our hearts are centered upon Him.
We begin to see a wonderful life-principle emerge. Everything true and good about Christianity flows from the One Who is truth and goodness. It is never about the facts we learn about God… it is always about living in a real relationship with the God Who came to make us a part of His life.
We all need to live our lives based upon what is true. Jesus came to BE that Source of truth in our lives each and every day.
Prayer Focus: Lord Jesus, I seek to live in Your truth revealed to me in Your Word… and through Your Spirit living within me.
