The new you… fully surrendered; part 5
“Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” (Romans 12:1)
We cannot leave this topic without one last stop.
Of all the reasons for surrendering everything we are to God, this is the most personal. In some ways, it is the most meaningful.
The big question, before every person, is “what is the meaning of my life?” Do I have any purpose for existing?
Life is full of pursuits. They are the ways that most people answer these questions.
Pursue… success. Relationships. Achievements. Philanthropy. Religion. Fame. Causes. Fortune. Pleasure. Entertainment. And on and on…
All these things are our best efforts at defining what is meaningful for us – or at least what gets us through our days – because, for most of us, our feelings of insignificance, eventually, overwhelm us. And none of these pursuits (even the ones we consider noble) will ever get us to the answer we need.
This is why God’s message to us is so crucial. Our Creator designed us to be personally significant, individually important – and for each of us to discover the fullness of our meaning and purpose in life.
One of the first thoughts that our Creator offered us was the fact that we were each (male and female) formed in His Image. This means so many things… but, one of the primary things that it means is that we are inherently important and significant. God designed us to be physical (and accurate!) representations of Himself – that our real purpose in life is to know God and make Him known.
No other pursuit will satisfy us – because no other pursuit will line up with what we were all designed to be.
Life is about fulfilling our Creator’s design for us – and everything He has done for us, through Jesus, is about restoring us to the place where we can each live in the fullness of what we were created to be. That’s it. That’s what Christianity is all about. God doing everything that is needed for us to re-discover the fullness of why each of us was created – WHY we are alive on this earth, in the first place.
And this is why a full surrender to Jesus is so absolutely necessary. We cannot be pursuing other things, without leaving the most important thing behind. We cannot walk two separate paths at the same moment. We cannot travel two separate directions at the same time. We simply have to decide what road we are going to travel… and stay on that road.
The real key to life is discovering the best road to travel – the road that is going to get us where we really want, and need, to be.
If we really want to discover the fullness of a life of meaning and purpose, the only road that leads to that place is the road provided by our Creator. He knows how to get us where we need to be – and with the most joy in the journey!
Prayer focus: God, help me to seek my goals and purpose in You alone.
