The new you… fully surrendered
“Give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice — the kind He will find acceptable.” (from Romans 12:1)
Given the importance of BEing God’s… It might be good for us to talk about why a full surrender to Jesus is so essential…
Here’s the thing… God is going to love us – no matter our response to Him. In fact, He is going to love us even if we don’t love Him back… at all… ever. He is committed to us, no matter how much we are committed to Him – true love is just that way.
And about God’s love… it is ours at all times. There is never a moment when God turns away and says: “I just don’t want to love them today.”
This is tremendous news. God’s love does not come with divine conditions. We do not have to earn God’s love. We do not have to perform perfectly to gain His attention. His love is already given. And it is an eternal constant.
It really is true… God is for us, not against us (Romans 8:31) – and His love is not some type of reward for our good behavior.
This is an important part of why He deserves the fullness of our commitment to Him. Why wouldn’t we want the fullness of that kind of love in our lives??
And that is just the point. What limits our experience with God’s love is NOT God… it is us. God’s love is a feast of incomprehensible abundance to our souls. Why would we come to the Great Feast of God’s love and just nibble at the appetizers??
God invites us to come, to dig in… to immerse ourselves in the abundance of His love for us – and to fully discover the pleasure of knowing Him (Psalm 16:11). We fully surrender to Jesus, because that full surrender is the only way to experience the fullness of God’s immense love for us. We will only know the love of God to the extent that we are open to His love. And God’s hope for us, is that we would be wide open to His Heart. Only a full surrender to Him, opens wide our hearts!
God is so loving that the apostle describes Him as love… “we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love.” (from 1 John 4:16)
In this life, it is so easy to find ourselves relying upon other things to fill us – to give us pleasure, or joy, or peace, or hope. But God offers us something that goes beyond anything that this world can give us… He offers us Himself – as One Who constantly says: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” (Jeremiah 31:3)
The Beatles once sung a proclamation that: “All you need is love.” If that is true, then why would any of us not want to know, and fully experience, the Greatest expression of love ever. We will never find any other person who will love us as perfectly, as completely, as prolifically, and as freely as our Creator. And His love is already ours to know and experience. But… we have to receive what He offers us!
God invites us to surrender our hearts to His love – so that, every day and in every way, we might know the length, breadth, height and depth of His infinite love.
Prayer focus: God, help me to willingly respond to the fullness of Your love for me.
