How shall we describe the “new you?” The Bible speaks of several ways. Let’s take the time to explore those ways…
“Those who trust (wait/hope) in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. ” (Isaiah 40:31)
Our first description of the “new you” is a person who is energized! This is not human willpower, or more effort, at work. This is an energy that comes from beyond ourselves. It comes from an Almighty God, in direct response to our trust in Him. It is an indescribable energy that comes from His abiding Presence from within us – and His glory resting upon us. Only God can bring, and maintain, this kind of energy – and He promises to do so, as part of His complete provision for the “new you.”
The context of the prophet Isaiah’s words are centered in the restoration of God’s people (in this case, the Jewish people, from their captivity in Babylon). His words remind God’s people that even in the midst of their bondage, there is an eternal and infinite hope to be found in God.
When God acts, nothing is impossible.
The very same God Who spoke all of creation into existence – speaks His promise into the lives of His people. For “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” (Isaiah 40:29 NIV) His promise, when accompanied by our trust in His promise, brings insurmountable hope. “What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?” (Romans 8:31 NLT)
It is because of our hope in the faithfulness (and the power) of God that we are energized. God has called us, by name, to be His children – and He accepts the full responsibility to get us where He desires to take us. And in taking us there, He promises His divine energy to flow in us, and through us. This very energy, this very hope, flows in us through the “new you” He has given us.
If we are tired, run down, or worn-out, we can be certain that we are trying to accomplish things in our own strength. It is only human nature to expend our energy, apply all our efforts – and to become exhausted. It is human nature to seek to solve everything by human effort.
But God has a different solution. He has provided a new way. The prophet Isaiah got a glimpse of it. But the fullness of God’s provision did not come until He sent the Means of that provision: Jesus.
That new way is a new nature… that makes a new you!
The new you is full of hope. And: “hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.” (Romans 5:5 BSB)
The new you has instant access to the fullness of God – and of all He has to give. No matter what you face, no matter what comes your way – if you know that God is with you, you can always be full of hope!
Hope is the energy to fuel our lives. And when we place our active trust in Him, we are filled with a hope that will NEVER leave us ashamed for trusting in Our God.
Prayer focus: God, help me to sense Your Presence in every event of my life… and fill me with the hope that energizes my daily life!
