Behold! A New Thing…
“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” (Isaiah 43:19a)
For some reason, God seems to enjoy doing new things. He doesn’t rest on His laurels. He doesn’t just bask in His past achievements. He looks forward. He seeks to do what only He can do in the present. He actually seeks to do new things.
In fact, the context for our verse today, is God reminding His people of some of the miracles He performed on their behalf, and then declaring (basically): “Forget all that! I want to show you what I will do for you, today!”
It’s not just showing off (“I’m God, and I just want to show you how powerful I can be”). I think it is just in His Nature to bring forth new things. He wants to show us that He is not just the God of yesterday (or the God of the promise of tomorrow) – He is the God of the now!
Sometimes we need to be reminded that God desires to invest Himself into our lives. He is committed to our welfare. He finds glory, for Himself, in doing what only He can do, for us.
The challenge for us is to believe that… every day of our lives. We really need to wake up every morning with this thought on our minds: “God is for me. God is with me. And today, He is going to show up in my life… Today, God is the God of new things!”
So much of the challenge for us as Christians is to actually believe that God seeks to show us what He can do in our lives. The only restriction is our faith in Him.
That’s exactly what Scripture declares to us: “Without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
Really think about that…
The only restriction for God, in our lives, is our lack of faith in the fact that He has promised His handiwork will be evident in our lives. We need His faithfulness every day – and He promises to reward our faithful trust in His daily faithfulness!
Our (daily) faith is the link to His powerful (daily) faithfulness.
He is the God of new things… And He wants to show us a new thing today!
Prayer Focus: Seek God’s help to daily trust in His faithfulness – to show us new things every day.
